Frank Barnes Mentor Award Winner: Ada Nielsen

Ada Nielsen

LES awarded Ada Nielsen the 2023 Frank Barnes Award at the LES Annual Meeting on October 16. Don Drinkwater, who presented the award to Ada via video on behalf of LES, has commented, “Ada receives this award in recognition of the help, guidance, and mentorship that she has selflessly offered to countless members of LES and LESI over the years. In the words of one of her students, ‘Ada managed to capture everyone’s attention with interactive and engaging conversations on each of the subject areas discussed that week, whether she was teaching or just overseeing the program. Furthermore, she seemed to be the first person to arrive during the program and the last to leave the building, making sure that she spoke with each attendee or was available to answer questions.’”

Ada remembered launching the IP100 during her tenure as LES President in 2010. The purpose was to facilitate networking among corporate executive members. This exclusive event was invitation-only and took place at the Arizona Biltmore. She recollected, “I dedicated a significant amount of time to assembling an exceptional Board and reaching out to individuals.” It turned around LES finances and attracted new membership. Ada concluded with, “I’m thrilled to receive this award.”
