The LES USA & Canada High-Tech Sector (HTS) recently presented its March 23, 2026 webinar, AI Regulation in the European Union and the United States: State of Play and Future. The webinar provided an informative forum for exploring one of the most pressing topics facing intellectual property (IP) licensing professionals today, drawing engaged participation from members across the community.

Program Overview:

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape industries and legal frameworks worldwide, understanding the regulatory landscape has become increasingly important for IP licensing practitioners. This webinar explored the connections, gaps, and similarities between AI regulatory approaches in the European Union (EU) and the United States (US).  Attendees gained valuable insight into the role of the European AI Office and also addressed the current state of AI regulation in the US, including state-level considerations, presenting perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for both regulators and IP licensing practitioners.  The session also explored the privacy considerations raised by the rise of agentic AI.  The discussion examined how these capabilities strain established privacy principles such as consent, data minimization, and accountability, and what they may mean for organizations that deploy or license such technologies.  Looking ahead, the session offered perspectives on where AI regulation may be headed.
