Welcome to the LES Indiana Chapter

The Indiana is one of over 35 LES Chapters in LES (USA & Canada), Inc.  LES Chapters are located throughout the USA and Canada in regions with concentrations of LES members and licensing professionals.  The Indiana Chapter, under the direction of the Chapter Leadership, hold regular meetings throughout the state.  LES members and other expert speakers present topics relevant to technology transfer and licensing.  We look forward to seeing you a future Indiana Chapter event!

Chapter Leaders:

Tejas Shah - Chair

Tejas Shah is an Associate Director at Pellegrino & Associates, LLC. Mr. Shah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Indiana University and a JD from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He performs project management; legal, market, and financial analyses; and valuations for M&A, licensing, litigation, tax matters, and strategic initiatives. Mr. Shah also provides litigation consulting services for calculating economic damages in IP litigation matters. During his time at Pellegrino & Associates, Mr. Shah has completed over 150 consulting engagements for organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies to individual inventors in every sector of the economy. Prior to his time at Pellegrino and Associates,, Mr. Shah was an Associate at Brannon Sowers & Cracraft, where he drafted patent applications in a broad range of fields, including chemical compositions, medical devices, and materials science-related inventions. He also assisted in drafting infringement, patentability, and clearance opinions for multinational corporations. Mr. Shah has also represented clients in IP litigation matters in U.S. District Court and trademark oppositions before the USPTO.

Scott Simmonds

Scott Simmonds is a Partner at Barnes & Thornburg, LLP.  Mr. Simmonds works with business clients to identify the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of their inventions, create significant and enforceable patent properties, and maximize revenue-generating initiatives designed to monetize IP.  Mr. Simmonds spent more than a decade as an engineer and manager working in the design and manufacture of medical devices and patient-handling equipment. As a result, he offers multidimensional business experience that ranges from planning and development to budgeting and staffing. His business experience and education help him to understand client concerns from their distinct perspective. Scott currently serves as Patent Practice Leader of the firm’s IP group, a team of 80+ attorneys. Mr. Simmonds has a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, an MBA from the University of Cincinnati, and a JD from the Indiana University School of Law. 


James A. McGee

James Andrew (Andy) McGee, CLP, is currently Sr. Director, Corporate Business Development, at Eli Lilly and Company.  In this role, Andy leads licensing transactions, as well as joint ventures, M&A and venture capital investments, across therapeutic areas and across geographies. Andy’s career in the pharmaceutical industry started at Pfizer.  He joined Lilly in 1997 and has been in business development for the past 12 years.  Andy holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in biology from Purdue University and a MBA degree from Duke University.


T.J. Cole

Troy Cole (T.J.) is a partner in the Intellectual Property Group. He is a registered patent attorney with a broad-based intellectual property practice. T.J. assists clients with obtaining protection for their intellectual property by securing patents, trademarks and copyrights, as well as intellectual property licensing, enforcement and defense.

T.J. has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering as well as a minor in Theoretical and Applied Physics from Bradley University. He received his juris doctorate from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1994. Prior to law school, he gained over five years of technical experience as an electrical engineer, specializing in classified high frequency military electronics, at Texas Instruments, Inc.


Dennis (Denny) Abbot 

Denny  Abbot is the Director of Global Business Development at Cook Biotech. Denny leads all in and out licensing of new technologies and provides product support across all tissue engineered products. His successes include: 

· Developed a technology assessment and product screening process implemented across the whole company.  To date have accessed over 75 new technologies and influenced the creation of many new products.

· Identified and led the incorporation of three new world-wide distributors.

· A member of the executive team which has re-branded all tissue engineered products as well as medical devices in other business units.

· Worked with sales in marketing in launching over 20 new products.

· Contributed new technical sales training materials on product technologies, resulting in increased sales of over 100x.
