Intellectual Property Issues in Transfer Pricing: The Role of the Licensing Executive

The goal of this session will be to provide Licensing Executives with an overview of how corporate taxes might be affected by licensing deals. We will provide an overview of recent tax cases and decisions and discuss the importance of coordination between licensing and tax executives during intellectual property intensive transactions. Finally we will review strategies and practices for licensing executives to consider when working with corporate tax.

Speaker Bios:

Christopher Murphy: Associate

Mr. Murphy’s practice focuses on tax controversy and litigation. He represents multinational corporations and financial institutions through the full range of federal income tax controversy proceedings, including audit, administrative appeals, and trail and appellate judicial proceedings. His substantive experience includes a wide range of complex tax issues, including economic substance and business purpose, foreign tax credits, debt/equity, transfer pricing and a variety of partnership issues.

Michael Lasinski: CEO & Managing Director

Mr. Lasinski is an internationally recognized expert in the valuation of intellectual property. During his 20 plus years in the profession, he has worked on more than 500 matters relating to the valuation of intellectual property. Mr. Lasinski has testified and / or been retained as an expert at the International Trade Commission, Federal Court, State Court, Tax Court and in arbitrtation proceedings. Mr. Lasinski is a past president of the Licensing Executives Society USA / Canada.
