About the Presenters: 


Janet MacLeod is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department at Fox Rothschild LLP. Janet holds a bachelor’s degree from Brown University, a law degree from Pace University and a doctoral degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her practice is focused on the worldwide acquisition and enforcement of patents in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical arts. She has extensive experience in all areas of patent practice, including preparation, prosecution and portfolio management. Janet provides opinions on patentability, infringement, validity and freedom to operate and also conducts intellectual property due diligence reviews.

  Dr. Jahan Ali is an accomplished business executive who brings a unique perspective to the early stage bioscience commercialization space, developed from working as a biotech investor, in technology transfer, as well as in business development. Jahan is currently the founder and CEO of Octane Ventures, which works with digital health and bioscience companies. Jahan is also the Managing Director at Springboard Enterprises, where she leads the Health Innovation Hub. She is able to think creatively and strategically and is adept is building relationships with multiple stakeholders. Prior to founding Octane Ventures, Jahan was the SVP at the Partnership Fund, where she led life sciences investments. She also has technology transfer experience from two medical centers – Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and the Hospital for Special Surgery, as well as from Mojave Therapeutics.

Dr. Sadhana Chitale is the Director of Life Sciences/Technology Transfer. Sadhana joined the Office of Industrial Liaison at New York University in 2001. Her primary area of responsibility is the management of intellectual property and technology transfer matters (Life Sciences). Sadhana received her PhD from the University of Mumbai and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. She did her post-doctoral fellowships at Colorado State University and Weill Cornell Medical School. She is a Certified Licensing Professional and a registered patent agent. Prior to joining NYU, Sadhana was a Licensing Manager at the Weill Cornell Medical School.

  Thomas Gallagher has extensive experience in the area of biotechnology intellectual property law. At present, he is Senior Vice President of Intellectual Property and Licensing at Kadmon Corporation, LLC, a biopharmaceutical company based in Manhattan. Prior to joining Kadmon, he was a consultant to Neostem Inc., a company working in the area of stem cell biology. From 1995 until 2007 he was chief patent counsel for ImClone Systems. Mr. Gallagher is experienced in both patent prosecution and litigation, as well as intellectual property issues relating to business development and licensing matters. His patent litigation experience includes European litigation and opposition proceedings. Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Gallagher worked as a molecular biologist in France, Spain and the United States.
