Michele Herman 
o Chief Corporate Counsel, Invention Science Fund,Intellectual Ventures 

Michele will provide an overview of open source software (OSS) licensing practices, the intellectual property in OSS, the legal risks in using OSS-licensed software, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance and enforcement practices. 

Speaker Bio:  
Michele K. Herman is chief corporate counsel of the Invention Science Fund at Intellectual Ventures. Prior to joining Intellectual Ventures, Ms. Herman was a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine, and prior to that, associate general counsel at Microsoft Corporation, where her practice focused on technology standards, open source software, and technology and patent licensing. Ms. Herman is currently Vice Chair of the Licensing and Management of IP Assets committee for the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). Ms. Herman has also held leadership roles in open source and standard committees in several professional organizations. Further, she is an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law. Ms. Herman received her B.S. in electrical engineering and her J.D. from Rutgers University and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
