What is eligible for patent protection in the U.S.? The topic is hot again following new US Patent Office Guidance in January. R. Polk Wagner, Professor of Patent Law, Deputy Dean from the University of Penn Law School and Valentina Boyet, Senior IP Counsel from SAP, will give an overview of the new Guidance and what to expect for patenting software and medical devices in 2019. The event also includes discussion and some time for debate with the audience.

Polk Wagner, Professor of Patent Law and Deputy Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Law School
Polk Wagner is Professor of Patent Law and Deputy Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He focuses on research and teaching in intellectual property law and policy, with a special interest in patent law. He has over 20 articles including the First Amendment status of software programs.
Valentina Boyet, Senior IP Counsel, SAP
Valentina Boyet is Senior IP Counsel at SAP. She has almost two decades of in-house and law firm experience prosecuting, litigating, and licensing patents, including 13 years with software patents. Valentina has a deep understanding of European patent and copyright practice and complexities of cross-border R&D efforts.
