IP & Licensing Basics: A One Day Review

Posted By Administrator, Monday, April 10, 2017

On April 7th, LES Toronto offered an LES Education Program presented by two Past-Presidents of the Licensing Executives Society,  Jeff Whittle (Hogan Lovells US, LLP) and Francois Painchaud (ROBIC, LLP).  The program was a highly engaging review of intellectual property basics covering both legal and business concepts impacting licensing. Program attendees included individuals from academia, tech and life science companies, law firms, and government.

Break out, table discussions enhanced the opportunity for discussion and collaborative learning.  This complimented the five presentation sections and group exercises, which provided a well-rounded day of learning.

The expertise and knowledge of the two presenters provided an invaluable experience.  The LES Toronto Chapter thanks Jeff and Francois for their time and involvement in making this program a success. We also wish to thank Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP for kindly providing space for the event.

Lunch & Learn: IP Valuation

Posted By Administrator, Wednesday, December 7, 2016

On November 3rd, LES Toronto held its latest Lunch & Learn event.  The topic of the day was IP Valuation: Options for Determining Value in Today's Global Innovation Economy.  Our gracious speakers – Vimal Kotecha and Nikola Zivkovic, both valuation specialists at Richter Management (Toronto) – walked us through the various basic valuation techniques that can be applied to IP portfolios, with the help of easy-to-follow case studies.

The semi-formal presentation was followed by an engaging, freewheeling discussion of everything valuation.  It was a chance for our diverse group of attendees to gain a concrete understanding of the valuation process, when it is required or should be considered, and how to ensure that it is done well.

We wish to thank our session speakers for bringing the topic to life and, as always, we look forward to seeing our dynamic community members at the next LES Toronto event.
