  • The vehicles we will use to educate include workshops at LES meetings, conferences and webinars, and publication of articles in les Nouvelles, Viewpoints, and on our website.

  • To provide a variety of networking forums for the promotion of technology transfer and relationship building AND to promote LES as the key organization for these interactions.

  • To attract diverse membership from all CEEM related industries as well as support industries (legal, consulting, venture capital, universities) to facilitate networking, education, and be a catalyst for deal making all within our sector and with the other LES industry sectors and committees as appropriate.

  • To promote cross-sector relationships and activities within LES where such relationships and activities are mutually beneficial to the CEEM and other sectors and especially to LES (USA & Canada) and LESI.

Primer on Patent Pools (and Other IP Strategy Alternatives)

About the session:
Patent owners have many different strategies to drive adoption of a new technology, including forming a patent pool. What is the objective of a patent pool, and its key benefits? How does it differ from a traditional patent licensing program? What is involved in creating a patent pool? How do regulators look at the key issues? This webinar provides answers to each of these important questions. We will also highlight other IP Strategy Alternatives, including: creating a new patent licensing program, selling patents outright, and working with a patent monetization partner.

CEEM Royalty Rates & Deal Terms Survey

CEEM Survey Respondents

Like the Global BioPharma survey, the CEEM survey was also launched in October. Participation included academic institutions (34%), operating companies that ranged from big energy to start-up (39%), lawyers (16%), and other licensing organizations (11%). Deals submitted were primarily from the chemicals and energy industry segments making up approximately 52% and 28%, respectively, of the total responses.

Key CEEM Deal Statistics

Approximately 70% of the deals collected contained flat running royalties and most deals were entered by the licensor. About 75% of the deals were executed during 2008 or 2009 and 80% of the deals came from the chemicals and energy sectors. Of those reported, approximately 40% of the deals estimated peak annual sales of less than $50 million, most deals involved commercialized or soon to be commercialized products/technologies and a majority of the deals were exclusive.

The full survey report, with over 100 pages of analysis and data, is available exclusively to LES (USA & Canada) members. Click here to access the survey.
