High Tech Licensing Executive from Bose Corp. Named 2013 Frank Barnes Mentor Award Winner by the LES

Don Drinkwater to Receive Award during Society’s Annual Meeting, Sept. 22-25 in Philadelphia
WASHINGTON, DC, July, 25, 2013 – Don Drinkwater, Director of Licensing for the Bose Corporation, has been named the 2013 Frank Barnes Mentor Award winner by the Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A. and Canada). The award will be presented during the Society’s upcoming Annual Meeting: IP Matters in Every Deal, September 22-25 in Philadelphia, PA. (www.lesannual.org)
Now in its 13th year, the Frank Barnes Mentor Award is presented annually to recognize individuals who, like Frank Barnes, contribute significantly to the field of licensing through their extraordinary professional mentorship activities.
“Over the past dozen years, Don has repeatedly offered guidance and assistance on various licensing issues and questions that I encountered through my career,” said Richard Baker, President of New England Intellectual Property, LLC., who nominated Mr. Drinkwater. “I feel fortunate to be one of the many professionals, at LES and beyond, who have benefitted from Don’s mentorship. I’m so happy to see him aptly recognized with this award.”
Prior to joining Bose, Mr. Drinkwater directed licensing activities for 3Com Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation, and Compaq Computer, as well as serving as a director for PriceWaterhouseCoopers' Intellectual Asset Management practice.
A long-time member of LES (USA & Canada), he currently serves the Board of Trustees as Trustee for Member Engagement. Over the years he has been a very active leader in the High Tech Sector, where he served as Chair from 2009-2010. He has also chaired the Computer Hardware and Consumer Electronics committees, has published numerous articles in les Nouvelles (the Journal of the Licensing Executive Society International) and has presented IP issues at Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) events.
Mr. Drinkwater holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and a Master of Business Administration from Clark University. He is a member of Eta Kappa Nu (the honor society of the IEEE) and has won the Haskell Memorial Award for distinguished teaching at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where he spent 15 years teaching. He is also the inventor on multiple patents.
