NEW YORK, NY – October 27, 2015 – Jeffrey Whittle, an intellectual property (IP) partner at the international law firm of Hogan Lovells, U.S., LLP, has been elected as president of the Licensing Executives Society (LES) (U.S.A. and Canada), Inc. He will be formally inducted during the society’s 50th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Meeting, later today at the Marriott Marquis.

As president, Whittle has several initiatives focused around strengthening the society and its role in the IP and licensing community. His goals include growing membership across existing and new licensing sector industries while enhancing membership value, creating industry standards for intellectual property and technology transfer, deepening and reaffirming education, and strengthening existing and forming new alliances with other organizations.

“I have had the privilege of being involved, along with many other LES officers and LES board members, in drafting the LES 2020 strategy,” said Whittle. “To accomplish our goals, we are streamlining the LES board to focus more on strategic initiatives, enhancing the LES technology platform including the website, and strengthening the internal management procedures and roles for the organization. I believe these actions will launch LES into a strong and bright future for which members will be pleased for decades to come.”

As a partner in Hogan Lovells’ global Intellectual Property Practice Group, Whittle focuses his practice on the energy and high-tech industries with an emphasis on technology-based transactions. His practice encompasses mergers and acquisitions, due diligence investigations, intellectual property strategy, counseling, and opinions. Whittle also advises on patent protection, portfolio analysis, and other various types of intellectual property contentious and transactional matters, including Inter Partes Review disputed cases.

With over 20 years of experience, he has been recognized by Chambers USA, IAM Licensing 250, IAM Patent 1000, IAM Strategy 300, Best Lawyers in America, and The Legal 500 United States for his work in law and intellectual property. He was also awarded the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from the University of Houston Law Center and has served on M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s Technology Review Committee, IP Law360’s Advisory Board, and on Wake Forest University School of Law’s Board of Visitors.
