Education Workshops
Monday, March 12
2:00pm – 5:00pm
(no additional fee)
As an additional benefit to our Winter Meeting attendees, LES is offering two free education workshops. The education sessions are mapped to the CLP domains and provide the most current information on the fundamental topic areas of licensing.
Marketing Your IP: Opportunities & Strategies
(Intermediate Skill-Level: Mapped to CLP Knowledge Domain V)
Presented by Brad Morie and Lesley Stolz
In this workshop, the attendees will walk away with a better understanding of the steps involved in effectively marketing intellectual property assets. It is important for any licensing professional to understand that intellectual property can but does not always create value for the holder of it. Much of the value can be created by effective marketing and communication to potential users/customers of the technology. This class will focus on how best to obtain internal consensus on how best to capitalize on intellectual property assets as well as effectively deliver to the marketplace the information.
Creating an Agreement: Pitfalls & Best Practices
(Intermediate Skill-Level: Mapped to CLP Knowledge Domain VI)
Presented by David Jarczky and Willard Stanback
The preparation of a license agreement is one of the most important endeavors in establishing a successful licensing relationship. When worded properly, the resulting agreement protects the IP owner and supports the negotiated value flowing to IP licensee. Conversely, an overlooked clause or haphazardly drafted document could leave the rights of an IP owner open for abuse or destroy the economic returns otherwise receivable by the IP licensee. This workshop builds a practical understanding of the core clauses within a license agreement, their usefulness in clarifying rights, their impact on valuations, and pitfalls and best practices from industry experiences.
