"Licensing as a Source of Innovation"

Biogen Idec CEO, Dr. George Scangos, will describe how licensing has been key to building a strong, innovative R&D pipeline for the company. Biogen Idec is committed to innovation in everything they do, including partnerships. Because each partnership or alliance is unique, Biogen Idec has been extremely flexible about the structure of licensing agreements.  He will describe the range of partnership models, which have been specifically designed to support the individual needs and priorities of their partners. In each case, Dr. Scangos and his Management team, and are engaged in working collaboratively with their partner and the project team, to help ensure the collaboration is a strategic fit and success for both companies.

At Biogen Idec, dexpramipexole, in-licensed from Knopp Biosciences, is in phase 2 for ALS. Biogen Idec is also rebuilding an early stage pipeline with three innovative licensing agreements announced so far, including collaborations with Portola Pharma (Syk inhibitor), ISIS (spinal muscular atrophy), and Samsung (bio-similars). A positive attitude toward licensing as a source of innovation and strong Senior Management involvement with partners, are widely viewed as key contributors to Biogen Idec's strong, innovative R&D pipeline for growth.
