Description:

Startup companies need IP protection, but the expense is hard to justify.  BlueIron finances patents for startup companies using a unique “lease-back” model.  The key to BlueIron’s investment is the due diligence done prior to investing, where BlueIron analyzes the competitive landscape and the patent landscape to determine whether or not to make an investment.

Participants will learn:

  • What types of inventions are worth patenting?
  • How do you determine enforceability?
  • How do you analyze the economic benefit of an invention?
  • When does it make sense to get a patent, as opposed to keeping something a trade secret?

Speaker:
Russ Krajec

Russ Krajec is the CEO of BlueIron IP, an investment company that finances patents for startups.  Russ is a practicing patent attorney and an experienced engineer with over 30 patents.  He was a co-founder and COO of an angel and venture backed startup company, and is the executive director of IP.Education, Inc. and the Ethical Collaboration Association, both are 501(c)3 non-profits that serve the startup ecosystem.

He holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a JD from Denver University.
