Speaker:

Raymond Van Dyke
Founder and Principal
Van Dyke Law
Washington, D.C.

Ray Van Dyke is the LES Washington, D.C. Chapter Chair and the Founder of Van Dyke Law.  His practice focuses on technology law in a variety of industries and sciences, specializing in patents, licensing, trademark, trade secret, and copyright issues, with particular emphasis on U.S. and foreign patent and trademark consulting, preparation, prosecution, portfolio management, and patentability, validity, enforceability, and infringement opinions, including defending and bringing the third party oppositions and other post-grant procedures.  Ray also teaches IP and testifies on IP laws and regulations.

Program:

With intellectual property, particularly patent rights, under siege in the U.S., Ray will provide an insider’s look into the current state of IP protection there – particularly focused on the high tech/software industries, including actions in the USPTO, court cases, and any effects by the current administration and political climate.

Ray’s presentation will provide some practical information to individuals involved in the development and/or commercialization of high tech and software technologies, especially those concerned about the strength of their IP protection in the U.S.

Topics will include:

1. Patent Reform: Dead or Alive for 2017? More troll bashing?
2. USPTO: Turmoil at the USPTO and Ongoing 101 Rejection Nuancing
3. Copyright: Intrigue at the U.S. Copyright Office
4. Trade Secret: The Defends Trade Secret Act of 2016
