In today’s dynamic threat landscape, innovation is the key to solutions and safety. This extremely important program will cover various aspects of learning about both the cyber world and the real world of espionage and dangers from various sources and means against the United States. Our two experts will cover topics from the safety of your cell phone to the ballistics of a high-powered rifle.

An in-depth look at why and how you and your company should be worried about the current and evolving threats against our way of life. Hidden in the mountains of south-central New Mexico is the nation’s premier facility dedicated to the study of explosives and ballistics.  Operated by the Energetics Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC), the facility is used to evaluate building vulnerabilities to high-explosive and ballistic attacks.  Scientists use the resulting vulnerability knowledge to reach resilience solutions that are widely useful to the critical infrastructure.  Among the numerous opportunities are practical solutions for improving the blast resilience of data centers.  Solutions offer the potential for new highly-marketable intellectual property.

Also in the same secure compound is www.icasa.nmt.edu, the Institute for Complex Additive Systems Analysis. They create and conduct top secret cyber systems for the DOD and U.S. Intelligence Services.

Dr. Michael J. Hargather is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at New Mexico Tech and a Research Scientist at the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center www.EMRTC.nmt.edu  a research division of New Mexico Tech located adjacent to campus. Michael teaches undergraduate classes in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer, as well as graduate classes in compressible flow, combustion, and digital image processing.

Dr. Hargather performs research in the development and application of optical techniques to the study of high-speed compressible flows and explosions. His expertise includes explosive characterization, schlieren image velocimetry, rocket propulsion, and general fluid dynamics.  He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 2008.

Michael Smith is Associate Director and Program Manager, www.icasa.nmt.edu   is the Institute for Complex Additive Systems Analysis. They create and conduct top secret cyber systems for the DOD and U.S. Intelligence Services. Mr. Smith holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and is in the process of completing his Program Management Professionals (PMP) certification.

Mike has been the ICASA Program Manager and Technical Task Lead on several projects at ICASA for over six years. He has experience in the modeling and simulation of large-scale critical infrastructures systems, to include electric power systems, performing programming and scientific analysis in the Mat-Lab environment, mathematical and scientific modeling, including paradigms such as hybrid-dynamical systems modeling.

 Dr. Srinivas Mukkamala, Ph.D., Co-Founder and CEO of www.RiskSense.com

Dr. Mukkamala has devoted many years to creating innovative IP around Cyber-Risk, and co-founded RiskSense from a think tank that advised the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Intelligence Community developing Computational Analysis of Cyber Terrorism against the U.S., as well as supporting Vectors Intrusion Detection Risk Analysis of Vicious Executables and the Strike Team Program. The RiskSense Platform embodies the expertise and intimate knowledge gained from real world experience in defending critical networks from the world’s most dangerous cyber adversaries.

Peter Anselmo, Ph.D., Director, Center for Leadership in Technology Commercialization

For over 25 years Dr. Anselmo has led the charge to bringing new research technologies to the market.  USA Today rated www.nmt.edu as the 8th best engineering school in America.  It also is one of the largest training centers for First-Responders in the U.S.  Dr. Anselmo will discuss the advantages of industry-university partnerships to address pressing technological issues such as cyber and physical security. Universities have the proper infrastructure to effect such partnerships, as they are uniquely positioned to help industries co-discover new intellectual property IF objectives are aligned, and both parties are willing to negotiate IP sharing in good faith.
