Joint LES Toronto & Startup Toronto Event: A legal clinic on Intellectual Property
We are pleased to announce this joint event with Startup Toronto, a local chapter of Startup Canada. Our distinguished panelists will be providing a general overview of the major forms of intellectual property protection and advising on how early stage startup companies, in particular, can leverage IP to increase value and minimize risk. The event is aimed at a general audience and examples will be drawn from a number of different technology sectors. This is a great chance to mingle with members of Toronto’s vibrant startup community and, at the same time, brush up on your general IP knowledge. We look forward to seeing you there.
Along with an open panel discussion, there will be two ~30 minute presentations:
Presentation 1: Patents and Other Forms of IP
Jason Leung will give a brief overview of the different types of IP protection with a particular focus on patent law - specifically, the patent application process and strategic considerations for companies at the startup stage.
Presentation 2: Software IP Protection and Licensing
Anil Bhole will be presenting on protecting computer software - different forms of IP protection and what to look out for when assembling code.
There will be pizza.
