Nike and the Ducks are both Oregon-grown stories and nationally and internationally recognized icons.  At this special LES event we'll hear from representatives of both about a different side of licensing than patents and copyright:  marks, likeness, and maybe a little about a certain cartoon character's relation to an Oregon mascot.  Our three excellent panelists will discuss the numerous licensing and rights acquisition issues involved in collegiate brand licensing, product endorsement and product placement arrangements.

Javier Zamora is an Assistant General Counsel in the Legal Department at NIKE, Inc. headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon.  Javier's practice primarily focuses on entertainment law, global brand marketing, and collegiate licensing, where he provides support and advice to NIKE and its affiliates on a wide variety of domestic and international music, film, television, product, and digital marketing projects.  Prior to joining NIKE, Javier was an attorney at the national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP based in Chicago, Illinois.  Javier also served as an infantry Captain in the U.S. Army and conducted a one year tour of duty in Iraq from 2004 - 2005.

Matt Dyste is the director of marketing and brand management at the University of Oregon. With expertise in marketing and licensing Matt began and has grown the marketing and trademark licensing programs at the university significantly during his tenure. With responsibilities for marketing the institution and managing the University of Oregon brand he is passionate about higher education and, having worked at the university for nearly 20 years, Matt is clearly a Duck. A past president of the International Collegiate Licensing Association he enjoys speaking with and lecturing to students, working with businesses seeking to work with the university and spreading news of the great educational opportunities and game changing research being done at the University of Oregon.

Mike Cohen is a Shareholder at Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt in Portland.  Mike's practice primarily focuses on trademark, copyright, entertainment and sports, advertising, and new media issues, including licensing, transactions and litigation.  He has a wide array of experience negotiating music, film, television, video game, literary publishing, personal appearance, name and likeness, product endorsement and other royalty agreements, both from the side of companies acquiring rights and on behalf artists, athletes and celebrities granting such rights.
