SPEAKER BIOS
Michael Kallus, Asset Manager, IP Finance Group, Fortress Investment Group
Michael Kallus serves as the asset manager in Fortress Investment Group’s IP Finance Group, maintaining relationships with operating companies, banks, and law firms, coordinating intake and advising on potential patent backed investments, contributing to approval diligence and monitoring deal performance. Prior to his position at Fortress, Michael worked with the business development and acquisitions groups at RPX Corporation for over four years. Before that, Michael was a litigator with several national practices, focusing on patent litigation, licensing, and M&A support. 

Michael began his career in law as a clerk to the Hon. Chief Judge C. Roger Vinson in the Northern District of Florida. Michael is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley and the University of Virginia School of Law.

James Kovacs, Associate General Counsel and Director of the Patent Licensing Group, Intel Corporation
James Kovacs is Associate General Counsel and Director of the Patent Licensing Group at Intel Corporation. His group manages Intel's worldwide patent-centric transactions, such as licenses, cross-licenses, acquisitions and sales, as well as pre-litigation patent assertions. Prior to going in-house, James' private practice career focused on representing clients in connection with complex technology and licensing transactions, including technology and business process outsourcing.

James graduated with a B.A. in Economics and Psychology from the University of Michigan.  He went on to earn his J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Amar K. Mehta, Senior Patent Counsel, Google
Amar K. Mehta is a senior member of Google’s patent group with experience across all aspects of IP including portfolio development, patent acquisition and licensing, and patent litigation.  He currently oversees patent strategy, client counseling and portfolio development for Android, Chrome OS and Google Play and in the past has held the same role for YouTube, Photos, Hangouts and Google+. Mr. Mehta was previously Google’s head of patent acquisitions, during which time he closed more than 100 deals and helped grow Google’s patent portfolio to over 50,000 assets.

Mr. Mehta has been recognized nationally by the American Bar Association for his negotiation skills and has transacted deals with an aggregate value of more than $20 billion over his career. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Nader Mousavi, Partner, Sullivan & Cromwell LLP
Nader A. Mousavi is a leader in the field of transactions involving technology and intellectual property. He has been recognized as one of the “World’s Leading Patent Practitioners” by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Patent 1000 (2012-2015) and as one of the “Top 100 Lawyers in California” by Daily Journal (2012).

Mr. Mousavi advises clients on the intellectual property and technology aspects of high-stakes transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, spin-outs, joint ventures, collaborations, financings, licenses and settlements. He has extensive experience in the licensing and transfer of patents, trademarks, trade secrets, know-how, content, pharmaceuticals, data, software and other technology. He is a Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School where he teaches a course on Patent and Technology Licensing.

Mr. Mousavi is a partner and co-head of the Firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology Group and the Firm’s Cybersecurity Group. Prior to joining S&C, he was a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr (WilmerHale) where he co-founded the firm’s Palo Alto office. Earlier in his career, he served as the general counsel to a telecommunications software (SaaS) company that pioneered the “softswitch” until its acquisition by a leading broadband equipment company, and then he served as a senior counsel for the acquirer. Mr. Mousavi has also served on secondment to Cisco Systems as lead technology counsel to its IP communications business unit.
